鳥たちの不思議な習性
地球上には約9,000種類の鳥類が、極地・高山・海洋などの実に様々な環境の中で生活しています。一見奇妙に見える鳥たちの形態や習性も、よく調べてみるとそれぞれの環境の中で長い年月を経て、高度に適応した結果であることが分ります。
また一方で、普通の人間には考えつきそうもない不思議な習性を進化させてきた鳥たちもいます。そのような習性には、ただただ目を見張るばかりです。
グールドの鳥類図譜にはいろいろな鳥の習性が見られますが、ここでは、美しいアオムネオーストラリアムシクイの生息環境、セッカの巣、アリスイ、オニアオバズクの採餌、キエリアオゲラ、チャバラゴジュウカラの威嚇、そしてマダラニワシドリの驚くべき求愛行動を選んでみました。
