The Black Sunbird is a sunbird found in the islands ranging from the Celebes to New Guinea. The sunbird is named after the shiny, metallic gloss on the head, shoulder, and throat feathers of the male birds. The female's colours are more subdued, the upper part being dark yellow and the belly a somber yellow. The scientific name "nectarinia" means "nectar-loving", and apart from nectar they also prey on small insects. (Length: 11 cm)
