Kuniyoshi Obara's guiding principle in establishing Tamagawa Gakuen was "Zenjin (Homo Totus) Education", meaning "education of the whole individual". In order to realize this motto, he strove to expose his students to the highest of experiences. This spirit was succeeded to the President Emeritus, Tetsuro Obara, who chanced upon a volume of Gould's ornithological works. Struck with admiration, he began collecting Gould's entire oeuvre, and completed collecting all 40 volumes in 1999, seven years after his first encounter with Gould.
