A Monograph of the Trochilidae, or Family of Humming-birds
Vol.5 - Plate No. 318

Length: 10 cm

The Snowy-breasted Hummingbird is a small hummingbird found in Costa Rica and Panama. The male and female birds are coloured the same, and they weigh only 5 grams. Like other hummingbirds, they feed mainly on nectar of flowers, and attack other hummingbirds that intrude into their territory. They also hunt spiders and small insects. Apart from the fact that they lay two eggs and the female incubates them, their breeding habits are not known in detail. They are one of the commonest hummingbirds in this region.
