The Whooper Swan breeds in the northern part of the Eurasian continent and migrates to southern regions in winter. They migrate to Hokkaido and Honshu in Japan. In Honshu, Lake Hyo (Hyo-ko) in Suibara, Nigata prefecture is particularly famous for its swans. During the winter they live in families, and immatures born in the same year are grey.
